Bellefontaine City Schools is spotlighting its counselors during National School Counseling Week (February 6th-10th).

BCS school counselors play a vital role in the education of our students.

Counselors are certified/licensed educators with advanced training who help students succeed by providing many services, including social emotional learning, academic strategies, and goal setting. Counselors also collaborate with families, teachers, and community agencies, mediate conflicts, assist with college, job, and scholarship applications, and even offer short-term counseling.

Bellefontaine City Schools is fortunate to have committed and experienced counselors.

BCS salutes counselors Lindsey Maus, Eric Hamm, Julie Kurtz, Shawn Congleton, Rebecca O’Rielley, Shalie Logan, Paula Shaw, and Beth Ramsey.

Today, we’re celebrating the work of Rebecca O’Rielley, Shalie Logan, and Paula Shaw.

Title: Bellefontaine High School Counselor

Years of experience: 11 years

Why you enjoy working at BCS: As a graduate from BHS, it truly is my home. The Red and Black runs deep in my family. I couldn't ask for a better team in our counseling department. We work well with each other and have the ultimate goal of doing what is best for students. I’m proud of the culture that has been created in Chieftain Nation. With coaching cheerleading for over a decade, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many of our students in different settings. They never cease to make me proud and teach me new things. I cannot imagine working for another district.

What you love doing outside of school: I enjoy teaching and taking yoga classes, traveling whenever possible, hiking, watching my nephews play ball, reading, playing on my church softball team, and spending time with friends and family.

Name: Shalie Logan

Title: Bellefontaine High School Counselor

Years of experience: 12 years in education, 7 as a teacher and 5 as a school counselor

Why you enjoy working at BCS: I really enjoy my co-workers and the students I get to work with. Getting to work with students and help them as they navigate high school and prepare for the future is one of the things I most enjoy about my job. I also love working as a team with everyone in our counseling office at Bellefontaine High School. They are supportive, caring, and wonderful to work with.

What you love doing outside of school: I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have two young daughters who are 3 years old and 8 months old and I love watching them grow.

Name: Paula Shaw

Title: Bellefontaine High School Counselor

Years of experience: 33 years in education, 23 as a school counselor

Why you enjoy working at BCS: I enjoy working as a team with my fellow counselors, administrators, and teachers. Our office really feels like a family. I enjoy working with the kids – they make my day. You can learn so much from them if you just stop and listen to them. As Josh Shipp says, "Every student is one caring adult away from being a success." I hope that I can be that for my kids.

What you love doing outside of school: I enjoy watching basketball, reading, working in the yard, and spending time on the beach.
